Tomorrow being what it is, I thought I’d indulge myself by spending this weekend featuring pieces that I love, pieces that I want to wear myself. Yesterday, it was one of the bangles; today, it’s a ring.
I used to wear multiple rings constantly, on both hands, but that’s no longer wise: I spend too much time on tasks, with the animals and otherwise, that make rings easily caught. Autoimmune-mediated arthritis affects my hands enough already; I don’t need to inflict additional irritation on them voluntarily. But I can still look at and appreciate the beauty of (and frankly covet) the rings Wings makes, even if I can’t wear them regularly.
This one is, to me, perfect, and the most beautiful of the ones currently in inventory. [The fact that it alone fits my own fingers perfectly makes it doubly attractive, but it’s fully sizeable and wearable by a man as easily as by a woman.]
Oh, I know — we have some stunning solitaires that feature incredible stones, and some unique and beautifully shaped anticlastic finger cuffs, all much more likely to catch the eye. But to me, this ring is an example of how Wings’s work sometimes comes together with the sort of exactitude that (to me) makes it, yes, perfect.

It should come as no surprise that I like the wider band: It makes it possible for him to execute a design that is bold, yet incredibly, elegantly simple. And the design he chose is one that has always had great personal meaning for me: He has used a repeating Eye of Spirit symbolism on some of the pieces that he’s made for me over the years, and I wear it as a talisman.
Perhaps it has to do, at least a bit, with the subconscious awareness that my own eyesight is surrendering to the ravages of time. It makes what I see with my eyes all the poignant, and what I see with my other senses all the more important. It’s a protective image, and an inspiring one, and a reminder to be receptive to the messages afforded by vision . . . whether of the eyes themselves or of dreams and Spirit.
