The outside world talks about the blues as a bad thing: sadness, depression. But we know that the hottest fire is the one that burns blue, the deep, electric cobalt of heat and intensity. Blue, too, is the color of fidelity, of faithfulness to one’s partner.
And to us, blue is the color of both love and joy.
Wings has always been fond of heart imagery. He is a romantic at heart himself, and in our way, the notion of the same organ that carries the blood and breath of life also carrying love along its currents is simply the natural order of things. And so, in this season of romance, it’s perhaps no surprise that he has combined the organic imagery of love with the colors of unbridled joy to create a work of two hearts dancing in illumination and liberation. From its description in the Earrings Gallery here on the site:
Two Hearts Dancing Earrings
It’s the ultimate expression of love, two hearts dancing freely in the joy of each other’s existence. Wings summons that spirit of romantic love with these earrings, manifest in the light of brilliant silver and the fidelity of the deepest of blues. They begin with a pair of simple sterling silver ovals, a center hoop excised freehand, ajouré-fashion, all edges filed smooth as silk. Around each arching oval dance ten hand-stamped hearts, front and back. In the center, a pair of tiny holes are hand-drilled: one at the very top to hold the sterling silver wires; the other, just above the open space, where a jump ring holds the gemstone pendant. The pendants themselves are both human figure and heart, two beautifully matched cabochons of purest cobalt-blue lapis lazuli, the round “head” at the top free of matrix, the heart-shaped “body” traced with delicate arteries of shimmering pyrite. The paired stones rest in saw-toothed and scalloped bezels that form a single setting, each with its own organic bail extending from the top to attach to the jump ring from which it dances in the light. Each earrings hangs 1-5/8″ long (excluding wires) by 1-18″ across at the widest point; each round cabochon is 3/16″ across; each heart-shaped cabochon is 1/2″ long by 3/8″ across at the widest points (dimensions approximate).

In our way, love is liberatory: It kindles a fire in the heart and sets the spirit free to dance in the light, to engage life on terms of the purest joy. There are no blues of sadness here, no depression or dejection.
There is only the dance.
Two hearts dancing, in light and love.
