When we speak of dreams, we do so in intensely human terms. but what of the rest of the world?
Animals dream. Anyone who has ever watched a dog at rest, warm, safe, comfortable, and deeply asleep, knows the truth of that statement. We don’t ascribe dreams and visions to the rest of the world . . . and yet science knows that at least some plants are capable of what can only be termed “thought,” of the ability to recognize danger and to alter their appearance in self-defense.
Is it really such a stretch to believe that the other spirits our world comprises are also capable of dreams and visions?
In our way, such questions need no new answer; our peoples have long known that the universe and its constituent elements are all animated by spirit. Earth and sky, the trees and plants, the mountains and river and lakes, the winds and the water and the storm — to us, they are all living things, animated by spirit, capable of conscious thought . . . and of visions and dreams, those they grant to us and their own.
For those of us who make our home in this place, it is not difficult in the least to imagine the elements as living spirits; they show us their power daily, and as often as not, it manifests as an expression of will, of deliberate acts. It’s why we invoke their power for prosperity and protection: Water is life; the Skystone is water in talismanic form, one that protects life.
With today’s all-new work, Wings has captured this dynamic of protection and prosperity in the form of the the water’s own dreams. From its description in the Bracelets Gallery here on the site:
The Dreams of the Rain Coil Bracelet
Here in this place, the rain comes in search of its own dreams. It seeks transformation into a jewel of the earth even as it hopes to join the blue depths of the sacred lake. Wings captures this whirl of visions spiraling on the storm in a coil bracelet in the colors of the water: three hoops strung with polished Skystone nuggets in shades of teal and sky and robin’s egg; banded round beads of deep green malachite; and tiny rondels of azurite with malachite, melded shades of emerald and cobalt. All are strung in segment son memory wire, designed to hold its shape and fit nearly any wrist. Joint design by Wings and Aji,

It’s a work that captures in miniature our world in this place, turquoise skies and forested green peaks sheltering the sacred lake, the rain joining with them all to give life to the land and keep the lake its beautiful shade of blue. In this form, it evokes the coiled power of the storm, of whirlpool and whirlwind, of the vortex that leads to the place of emergence and the threshold of worlds beyond . . . even the world of dreams.
