“The Sleeping Ground” Necklace. $400. SOLD.

Winter blankets the sleeping ground, thawing here and there long enough to let the rich dark earth show through the snow. With the first necklace in his latest small seasonal series, Wings summons the imagery of earth and snow and a world at healing rest into the circle of the beaded hoop. At the center, eight large round orbs of rutilated quartz, icy white with included needles of shimmering black schorl, like small snow-covered self-contained worlds, alternate with frosty white freeform nuggets of rainbow moonstone. Plump doughnut rondels of snowflake obsidian flank paired polished matte jet barrels, in turn flowing into a segment of snow-white orbs of tridacna shell. Moving upward, with each segment punctuated by single sculpted barrel beads of Indonesian silver, the strand becomes a gradient of size and shade: from gray moonstone marbled with shimmering peach to Dolomite webbed in the rich earthy reds of the last of the autumn leaves, thence to smaller tridacna shell and icy rainbow moonstone, ending in an anchor segment of small chatoyant rounds of black moonstone the color of rich soil rimed with frost. Necklace hangs 23″ long, excluding findings (dimensions approximate). Designed jointly by Wings and Aji. Another view shown below. Necklace coordinates with The Snow Line earrings and Drifting In Shadows coil bracelet [sold]. From the Earth series in Wings’s new collection, The Winter Elementals (all pieces shown below).
