In the desert, the greatest of gifts is sky medicine, bright blue to channel the light and webbed with clouds that hold the silvered rain. With this pendant, Wings pays tribute to the finest of blue desert skies even as he honors the blessings of the First Medicine. This simple, spare, elegant work is built entirely around the focal cabochon, an extraordinary specimen of ultra-high-grade natural Morenci turquoise in the most perfect of blues, finely dusted with shimmering silvery inclusions of iron pyrite. The stone, left freeform and slightly egg-shaped in the hands of a master lapidarist who lets nothing go to waste, nestles in the embrce of a low-profile scalloped bezel edged with a slender strand of twisted silver. At the bottom of the pendant, evenly spaced and overlaid on an organic bezel backing scalloped freehand to match, are two hand-made sterling silver ingot raindrops, formed repoussé-fashion in sharply-textured relief, the better to catch the light. The simple sterling silver bail is cut freehand in a gentle flare and hand-hammered lightly to reflect and refract the light, as well. Full pendant hangs 2″ long, including bail; without bail, 1-5/8″ long by 1-1/4″ across at the widest point; bail is 1/4″ long by 1/4″ across at the widest point; Morenci turquoise cabochon is 1-3/8″ long by 1″ across at the widest point; sterling silver ingot raindrops are 3/16″ across (all dimensions approximate).
