We call the path of existence a journey, a hoop, but it is also the work of searching for the sacred. With this old-style collar-design necklace, Wings honors the old roads and ways, the circle between past and future, the worlds that lie ahead, and the signifiers of the sacred that direct and heal us along the way. The necklace is formed of three separate focal segments, each saw-cut and filed smooth by hand, with parallel lines scored deeply into their surfaces freehand. The negatives space is punctuated by paths of flowing water, directional arrows pointing inward, and old-style eagle-feather fan motifs at the top ends of the upper two tiles. All three are domed by hand to create a sense of depth and dimensionality, their corners hand-drilled and linked together by sterling silver jump rings. The center tile is set at the top with an extraordinary focal: a starkly beautiful ellipse-shaped cabochon of White Buffalo magnesite, named for that great sacred spirit and manifest with a snowy white surface patched with jet black, the stone set into a hand-made, saw-cut bezel on an extended rectangular backing set with stars at the four corners. A sterling silver jump ring extends from the bottom center of the focal tile, linking up with the loop of the silver wire wrap around a small genuine arrowhead hand-knapped of black chert. The collar hangs via more jump rings from sterling silver snake chain held by sterling silver findings. Necklace, from back to tip of arrowhead pendant, hangs roughly 22″ long; domed tiles are 2″ wide by 1-1/8″ high; focal setting is 1-1/2″ wide by 3/4″ high; cabochon is 1-1/4″ wide by 5/8″ high as displayed horizontally; arrowhead pendant, excluding jump ring and loop, is 1-1/8″ long by 11/16″ across at the widest point (all dimensions approximate).
