Ceremony in lodge shows us the medicine of a lodgepole sky: the turquoise blues of daylight visible around the rising tendrils of smoke, a reminder of the beauty and power of the world for which we pray, and to which we will return. With these conchas created long ago for one of Wings’s oldest, no-longer-extant works, Wings creates a beautiful, wearable reminder of what awaits us on our emergence from prayer. Each traditional concha is cut and domed by hand, with eight deep, evenly spaced scoremarks radiating form the center in flared pattern; between their ends, a traditional lodge motif is stamped deeply enough to scallop the edges slightly. At the center of each, in, a saw-toothed bezel, sits a small, round, very old cabochon of natural turquoise (based on appearance, likely Royston) in bright sky blue marbled with golden-hued veins of spiderweb matrix. Conchas are buffed to a warm glow just a shade brighter than Florentine; at the top, hand-drilled holes hold the sterling silver French wires. The conchas were cut an inch across; domed as shown, they measure 7/8″ across; turquoise cabochons are 1/4″ across (dimensions approximate).
Sterling silver; old natural turquoise (likely Royston)
