The indigo hours, those interstitial moments just after dusk and before the dawn, are time and space that contain endless possibility. If you walk out beneath the stars into the blue silence, you can hear the heartbeat of the universe.
It’s a time of magic and mystery, one that we’re too often too busy to notice, much less experience.
These days, our lives are so frenetic and fraught that these powerful moments of silence and the sacred, of the guiding light of the strongest stars, are denied us altogether, even though they are the very thing we need to sustain us as we go about our days.
Wings knows this dynamic better than most, this soul’s need to consult with the wisdom of the stars, even as he understands that, for most people, it’s often impossible to do on any kind of regular basis. He summoned a solution in silver and stars, by way of a pair of small elegant dress buckles designed to be worn in virtually any circumstance.
They are coordinating, rather than matched. One calls upon the powers that preside over night; the other, the forces that help light the day. Each is equally important, even though we tend to give short shrift to each in different ways: Mere mortals tend to be afraid the dark, even though the day holds at least as many risks, but humanity fears that which it cannot see clearly, even as it ignores the dangers clearly visible. These two buckles were designed as talismans, ways of holding — wearing — the power of the stars who light the path of day and night.
The one shown above carries the spirit of twilight, of blue-violet skies and a settling stillness and the nascent light of the Evening Star. From its description in the Buckles Gallery here on the site:
At the center of this dress buckle, a hand-stamped Evening Star is surrounded by crescent moon patterns. Around the buckle’s edge in an alternating pattern are hand-stamped tipis, traditional representations of the lodges used by many peoples for living, sleeping, and healing. Buckle is 2″ long by 1-5/8″ high (dimensions approximate).

It’s a work designed to invoke the power of the night hours, of healing sleep and the medicine of dreams.
Its counterpart, by contrast, calls upon the forces of the dawn, of the sense of renewal and rebirth that accompanies the new day. From its description in the same gallery:
At this buckle’s center, a Morning Star is surrounded by images of the setting crescent moon. Edging the buckle are hand-stamped representations of squash blossoms, slowly unfolding with dawn’s arrival. Buckle is 2″ long by 1-5/8″ high (dimensions approximate).

We are fast approaching the time of year when the sunflowers bloom, banks and banks of wild blossoms that turn their faces to the east with the dawn, tracking the path of the light whose arrival is heralded by the glow of the Morning Star. As moonglow fades and Father Sun ascends, it is this star that lights both their paths . . . and for those of us already awake in the indigo hours, our own, as well.
Once the frenzy of the day begins, with work and errands and bills to pay, it’s easy to forget that these lodestars exist. Wearing their likeness, the spirits they hold, keeps us anchored to their power, reminding us to look for their light along our path.
