“Late Summer Nights” Earrings. $175. SOLD.

Late summer nights fall in glossy black, lit by the glow of moons in the shades of berries and smoke. With these earrings, Wings summons the light of budding and berry and hunter and first harvest moons to a cascading dance with the color of night. Each strand of hand-selected beads is strung on filament-thin sterling silver wire: at top and bottom, the anchoring shimmer of tiny genuine tourmaline in plummy shades of marbled red and gold. Between, South Sea shell pearls in gold and spice and dusty rose alternating with black onyx doughnut rondels with a glassine finish. South Sea shell pearls are human-created of natural materials, the shells of the same oysters (and sometimes other molluscs) who manufacture their natural counterparts: ground, specially treated, formed into small spheres, then coated with a colorful shimmer that evokes the glow of cultured pearls. Here, a pair of medium-sized golden orbs sit just inside the tourmaline, with larger metallic spice and dusty rose holding pride of place at center. Earrings hang 2-3/4″ long, excluding wires (dimensions approximate); sterling silver coil-and-ball-bead French wires hold them securely. Designed jointly by Wings and Aji.
