Pueblo peoples hold Corn Dances every year. Some dance specifically to honor the spirit of the blue corn, that beautiful variant of Indian corn whose jeweled kernels manifest in a spectrum of whites, yellows, greens, blues, and purples, sometimes all in the same ear. Wings captures its brightest shades in this col bracelet, a spiraling round dance of blue and green kernels in the form of gemstone beads. At either end, tiny rondels of azurite with malachite anchor the coil, each bead like its own small world of earth and water flowing to meet up with a segment of slightly larger round malachite beads the color of emeralds. At the center of the two outer strands of the coil are lengths of still larger round beads of Tibetan turquoise in the flawless pale blue of a robin’s egg. The graduated round beads form a pair of borders that highlight the chunky sky-blue turquoise nuggets at the center. All are strung on memory wire, which expands and retracts to fit virtually any size wrist. Joint design by Wings and Aji.
