Season, equinox, solstice: Each marker presents us with another turn of the Earth, another reminder that life is a cycle, infinite, no beginning and no end. With this cuff featuring extraordinary freehand stampwork and a spectacular old green turquoise cabochon, Wings honors planet, process, and the passage of time, all gifts of the spirits and the elemental forces that animate our world. The band is cut medium-wide, a classic size in a substantial yet comfortable gauge: solid, but not unduly weighty or unwieldy on the wrist. It features an entirely freehand pattern of deep, even, meticulous stampwork in a compound Art Deco design, at once complex and yet beautifully spare. It’s formed with three individual stamps, repeated at perfectly even intervals down the entire length of the band: a tiny sacred hoop at center, flanked on either side by paired stylized arrow points placed at slight but meticulous angles with radiant points alternating in a lightning-like pattern to form a border along either edge. The inner band is stamped with scattered heart, each pierced by an arrow, surrounded by tiny stars as though flung by Coyote’s blanket. At the center, an old-style focal, an homage to the Indigenous Art Deco silverwork of a century past, is cut into a sturdy rectangle, its corners softly rounded, radiant petal-like motifs placed at the ordinal points. At center, in a bezel wrought wholly by hand and edged with twisted silver, sits a very old green turquoise cabochon from Wings’s private collection, one of unknown provenance, backed but not calibrated or otherwise treated. Its age combined with its colors, rich electric lime greens, evidence of the zinc (and therefore the faustite) content in the stone, coupled with its almost map-like matrix of golden hues veining rich dark browns, suggests old Damele, perhaps Carico Lake, perhaps Ajax [all old Nevada mines]; it’s priced a little lower than it would otherwise be because its provenance remains uncomfirmable. Inner band is 6″ long by 13/16″ wide; setting is 1-1/2″ long by 1-1/8″ wide; cabochon is 1-1/4″ long by 3/4″ across at the widest point. Other views shown below.

Sterling silver; OLD natural green turquoise with faustite, likely old Damele, Carico Lake, or Ajax turquoise
