Deep in the Earth lies an ancient wisdom, from children long departed to those alive and well today, just waiting for us to listen to their guidance. With this cuff, Wings pays tribute to spirits of an equally ancient past, great beings whose very bones have become gems now, to remind us of their existence, and their importance. Such beings are manifest in the extraordinary “stone” that sits atop the center of this cuff, a beautifully domed and beveled trillion-cut cabochon of fossilized dinosaur bone, black veins dancing across a porous center filled with earthen-hued minerals that, against a buffing wheel, become glossy and bright. It’s set into a scalloped geometric bezel wrought entirely by hand, the backing edged in a slender strand of twisted silver and the whole elevated ever so slightly above the band itself. Wings has scored a single line down each side of the band to form a border, each line created using a single short chisel-end stamped chased repeatedly to deepen and extend it from end to end. Between line and edge on either side, radiant arcs of light repeat, dawn and dusk bookending the world each day, while simple plain arcs, like a crescent moon, extend inward from each border. Between those inner arcs and over and around a spare array of single diamond shapes, the central portion is texturized entirely by hand using a single tiny hoop, the stamp struck hundreds of time with a five-pound solid steel jeweler’s hammer. The diamonds, ancient signifiers of wisdom and guidance as seen through Spirit’s Eye, are created at the ends with traditional stampwork overlaid with the hoop pattern; framing the focal at the upper center of each side of the band, they’re left exposed: formed using repoussé techniques, stamped from the reverse to rise in subtle relief from the surface, given a higher polish than the warmly aged glow of the rest of the band. Band is 6″ long by 7/8″ wide; bezel is 1-1/4″ high by 1-1/4″ across at the widest point; cabochon is 1-1/8″ high by 1-1/8″ across at the widest point [all dimensions approximate].
