The Rain Road is like no other: It runs on the vertical, stretching from sky to earth. It is a path that belongs to the spaces between, a road that we can see and, in a manner of speaking, touch, and even inhabit occasionally, but not one that we can walk upon in this world.
In this part of our world, the Rain Road is a place of prosperity, but it does not stay in one place for long.
Its itinerant journey is part of what makes it so attractive. We miss the visitor who comes bearing gifts and soon departs, while the one who stays indefinitely wears out its welcome.
Here, the rain is a welcome guest, even if it brings harsh truths with it occasionally. The blessings that travel its road to us are, in this place, nothing less than life itself.
With today’s all-new work, completed only today, Wings has captured both the spirit of the gift and the road it walks. From its description in the Bracelets Gallery here on the site:
The Rain Road Cuff Bracelet
In the arid land of the high desert, the Rain Road is a place of fertility and abundance. Wings charts the path to this place of prosperity with this cuff wrought in the colors of rain and sky. It begins with four substantial strands of sterling silver triangle wire, soldered together into one smooth length like rainfall banded together in a single powerful torrent. At the top, offset from the center, a lightly beveled turquoise cabochon in the shade of the sky stretches to the four corners of the world. The stone is trimmed in twisted silver, and at one side, a tiny ingot silver raindrop opens onto the band, the birth of the storm as it cascade downward along its own flowing road. The band is 5/8″ across; the stone is 1/4″ across (dimensions approximate). Another view shown at the link.

It is one of his simplest cuffs, a single spare square stone the color of the western sky atop a silvered waterfall. The setting makes me think of a traditional olla, a water jar, with a narrow round mouth flaring open to allow the water to begin its downward flow.
Perhaps its is: an olla of the spirits, one tipped to pour from such a height that the water becomes its own silvery road connecting their world to ours.
The Rain Road is not one we can walk entirely by choice, and certainly not on a whim, but it is one whose journey gives us life.
