Alpine night skies deliver a long rain of stars, from those that fall to those that merely allow us a glimpse of their distant light. With these earrings, Wings pays tribute to that which lights the darkened skies, and to the sacred space of the world that holds its glow for us. Each long, dangling drop is saw-cut freehand of solid but lightweight sterling silver, the saw blade following the lines of old traditional thunderhead motifs arrayed in pairs. Arranged accordingly, they evoke the imagery of the winds and the sacred directions, cardinal and ordinal points alike, and of the sacred spaces found within them. Each linked pair is stamped at the center with a tiny classic five-pointed star, each placed to give the impression of a twinkling dance. Earrings hand from sterling silver coil-and-ball-bead French earring wires threaded through organic hand-drilled tabs extending from the top. Each drop hangs 3″ long, excluding wires, by 3/8″ across at the widest point (dimensions approximate).
