Sunny Skies and a Flowering Path, Returned

This day began beneath lowering clouds, violet-gray and pregnant with rain that declined to be delivered. Sunrise occurred behind its veil, its color reflected only faintly against the paler wisps in the western sky.

Come afternoon, though, and the storm has ushered itself beyond the peaks, rainclouds making way for their fluffier white counterparts across a turquoise sky. What little rain we were granted last night was sufficient to renew the green that remains, and for today, despite the fiery autumn colors of the trees across the road, we go about our work amid sunny skies and a flowering path, returned.

It has — and relative to the forecast, surprisingly — turned out to be a perfect day to feature two of Wings’s newest works, a pair of triangle wire cuffs in the warm rich blues and greens that are momentarily renewed.

We begin with the blues — one featuring gems in the flawless turquoise shade of the high desert sky. From its description in the relevant section of the Bracelets Gallery here on the site:

Sunny Skies Cuff Bracelet

Butterflies and other spirits dance on the wind beneath sunny skies. Wings pays tribute to their movement and migration with this cuff, made of solid sterling silver triangle wire stamped freehand on both top angles in a repeating pattern of bold sunrise symbols. Along the apex at the center of the band, tiny butterflies whirl and float. At either end, the band is hand-hammered into a smooth flat shape, edges softly rounded and filed smooth, then set at each terminus with a single small oval cabochon of Kingman turquoise, the perfect sky blue of the desert sky, nestled in the secure embrace of a saw-toothed bezel. The band is 1/4″ across; cabochons are 5/16″ long by 3/16″ across (dimensions approximate). Another view shown at the link.

The second pays tribute to the long-lasting greens of Indian summer, renewed here for us today despite autumn’s unusually lengthy preliminaries this year. From its description in the same section of the same gallery:

A Flowering Path Cuff Bracelet

To go well through life is to follow a flowering path, one abundant and green with life no matter the season. Wings honors both journey and way with this cuff, wrought of solid sterling silver triangle wire. The band is hand-milled to form a bold path down the center apex, flanked on its lower sides by hand-stamped images in a flowering pattern chased down its full length on either side. At each end, the band is hand-hammered flat, edges softly rounded and filed smooth, then set with a small round cabochon of boldly banded malachite. Band is 5/16″ across; malachite cabochons are 1/4″ across (dimensions approximate). Other views shown at the link.

Both cuffs are solid and substantial, yet lighter weight than the average triangle-wire cuff, delicate enough to wear stacked much like bangle bracelets. They also carry the rich shades of summer through autumn and into winter, reminding us that sunny skies inevitably return, and the path flowers again.

Now that the sun is out, the air is warm, but the nights are turning cold fast. We will likely build the first fire of the season this evening. Next week, the mercury is expected to plunge, and the mid-week storms currently forecast are as likely to bring snow as rain, if they deign to appear at all.

As hot as this year has been, the new autumn chill has provided a pleasant respite, but real cold is just around the corner. When the ground freezes solid and the snow turns to ice, a little reminder of the blues and greens of warmer winds will be welcome once again.
