“Hopi Maiden” Solitaire Ring. $495. SOLD.

Hopi Maiden Ring Top

Deep in an oval cabochon of sky blue turquoise rested the spirit of a maiden, waiting to emerge. Wings brought her into the light with this elegantly beautiful solitaire. The stone’s surface is a tracery of delicate inky black spiderwebbing, glistening here and there with tiny dewdrops of iron pyrite, set into a low-profile scalloped bezel and trimmed with twisted silver. The band is a solid piece of sterling silver of substantial gauge, hand-scored at either edge. But it is the setting the makes the piece: The oval beneath the bezel extends at either side into a pair of curving crescents hand-stamped in slender feather patterns, forming the traditional buns known as butterfly rolls that are worn by the maidens at Hopi (and, once, in this place as well): simple, symmetrical, and infused with an ancient spirit. Unisex; sizeable. Stone is 11/16″ high; setting is 7/8″ high by 1-1/8″ across; band is 7/16″ wide (dimensions approximate). Other views shown below.
